Joint Pain

Joint Pain

Many types of injuries and conditions can cause pain in your joints or muscles. When you have a joint disorder, there is usually swelling, it is warm to the touch, it is tender, it can be reddish in color, and often there is pain during movement.

Some of the injuries and conditions that may cause joint pain are:

• Arthritis.
• Bursitis (a painful condition that affects the small, fluid-filled sacs, called
bursae, that cushion the bones, tendons, and muscles near your joints)
• Injuries.
• Tendonitis (inflammation or irritation of a tendon).
• Infection.
• Overuse.

Whatever the cause of the joint pain, it usually causes an imbalance in the joint. At Atlas, we focus on the top bone of the spine, the atlas, and how it affects the joints in the body.

The nerves that go to all joints pass through the atlas. If the atlas is out of position, it can pinch or put pressure on those nerves. This prevents the nerves from functioning correctly, and they do not deliver proper information to the joints. The joints then become weak and are unable to operate as they should or heal properly.

If the atlas is out of position, it can also change the body’s center of gravity and cause an imbalance in the spine. This imbalance then gets transferred to the other main joints like the shoulders, hips, knees, etc., leading to dysfunction and discomfort.

An Atlas Clinics exam will tell us if your atlas is out of position. We will determine if it might have a part in causing your joint pain or preventing your joints from working or healing correctly.

If we suspect it does, we will take specific digital X-rays and run them
through spinal engineering software to determine what we can do to put
the atlas where it needs to be.

Once we’ve determined your required correction, a painless Atlas Clinics procedure will move the atlas back toward its proper place. This helps open up the nerve communication to the joint, allowing the joint to become stronger and to heal properly.
