Neck pain can be caused by joint or muscle conditions in the neck, or it may be caused by pressure on the nerves, which causes pain, numbness, or tingling in the neck, shoulders, and arms. Neck pain often interferes with daily activities and can last from hours to days or years if left untreated. Many different issues and injuries can cause neck pain, including:
• Conditions due to aging, such as osteoarthritis (the wearing down of joint
cartilage) and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spaces in the spine).
• Trauma from an accident.
• Overusing your neck muscles during repetitive or strenuous activities.
• Poor posture (sitting for long periods; poor computer/keyboard/chair
Many different health conditions can cause neck pain, including:
• Meningitis (swelling of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal
• Rheumatoid arthritis (when the immune system doesn’t work correctly and
attacks the lining of the joints).
• Cysts (abnormal, fluid-filled sacs).
• Spurs (hard bumps of extra bone).
Regardless of the cause of your neck pain, there is one vital factor to consider and check:
The atlas is the top bone of the spine and resides at the top of your neck. It houses and protects the blood supply through the neck and all the nerves exiting the brain, which control the back and neck muscles.
In many cases of neck pain, the atlas bone has been pulled or knocked out of position. This can happen quickly in the case of trauma or slowly, as in the case of poor posture or health conditions.
Once the atlas is out of position, it can cause the other neck bones to shift out of place, create decreased blood flow to the area, and put pressure on the nerves
that control the neck muscles. These result in soreness, stiffness, and limited, painful neck movement.
At EPIC, your doctor will perform a consultation to determine if you are a
candidate for EPIC care. If you are, we will move on to a thorough examination to determine if the atlas is out of position and if it is, specialized digital X-rays studies will be performed.
Those results are passed through advanced spinal engineering software to pinpoint precisely where the atlas is and where it needs to be. Information is then routed to an advanced soundwave-based adjusting instrument, which quickly and painlessly moves the atlas back to its proper position, relieving tension and stress from the muscles and joints of the neck.
This will also improve blood flow and nerve communication in the area.
